1. Remember that your blog and participation grades are on a 90/80/70/60 scale. For instance, if you have above a 90%, this is an A.
2. Your final portfolio is your opportunity for you to demonstrate to me that you spent the semester working towards the goals we set out with. You can find these listed on the syllabus, in the portfolio assignment sheet, on your blog, in our conversations, conferences, and feedback emails. I haven't attached grades to your work, but you have been earning your grade all semester. Your portfolio grade doesn't begin now.
I will not be grading you on anything we haven't spent the entire semester talking about. This is my attempt to not grade you on what you learned in high school but on your work in my class. The portfolio is a chance for you to have a say in how I interpret your work and progress. I know it feels scary to some of you, but I believe it is the best way for me to fairly evaluate a semester's worth of work.
I'm willing to talk more about this if you're still feeling nervous.

so what if you have 50% for you blog and participation grades? is an F equal to a 0 or a 50%, and if it is a 0, does that mean you have an automatic -40% on your final grade?
If you had a 50% for your combined blog and participation grade, blackboard would weight your 50% at 40% and your portfolio grade at the remaining 60%. The weighted and averaged percent would be your final grade.
However, as the syllabus indicates, your points will be split into participation-20% and blog-20%, so no one will fail an entire 40% of their final grade.
Hope that clarifies.
Good information to know!
