You will receive more information as each assignment draws near, but this will be the basic assignment sequence for the semester:
Assignment 1: Research Proposal
Write a research proposal. Your proposal should introduce a future research project to further your investigation of a particular issue in your community.
Assignment 2: The Essay
Write an essay using your past and current knowledge and experience with your community. The focus and rhetorical purpose of the essay is up to you.
Assignment 3: Initiating Action
Create something, based on your explorations of initiating action, that calls for some type of change in or for your community. Be creative: This might be a web page, a flyer, a letter, a report, an editorial, a poem, a song, a short story... but it should include at least some text (remember that your portfolio needs to be at least 20 pages of written, final text).
Final: Community Portfolio, including a reflective essay and a brief essay written on the last day of class.
